Artist Statement
I have been working with images from the New York Times for several years both in my drawing and painting practice.
The drawings are firstly drawn and then burned with sunlight focused thorough a magnifying glass, and the paintings are made with interference paints which also require light to make them visible.
The images, that make the news one day and are forgotten the next, bring the conceptual underpinning to the work which through its intentionally difficult presentation forces the viewer to make a conscious effort to look. This intense act of looking inevitably sharpens your perception and encourages to a more conscious interpretation of the images.
