Artist Statement
My drawings begin with images and ideas of energetic and chaotic places where I have lived and traveled. I am interested in the visual activity of cities like New York, Barcelona, and Mumbai, and find meaning in the way their built environments reflect the very human activity out of which they are created--the way brick, scaffolding and signage can climb and tumble in rhythm with personal and collective progress and struggle.  Through a process of improvisational drawing, I re-invent these places as imagined cities.  I choreograph new architecture on a journey through environments of opportunity and destruction.  Line by line, I attempt to make visible the energy of construction and the melancholy of loss.
