Artist Statement

My art reflects the examination of physical existence. I consider the relations between

natural and synthetic elements, rudiments and structures. The intension of my art is to

demonstrate and acknowledge life’s interactions. My creative process replicates these

studies of harmony and tension through methods of experimentation with various

mediums and disciplines.

Drawing, painting, collage and audio are all effective means of communication in my

work. These mediums can also be restraining to my original intension. Working

primarily as a multidisciplinary artist allows me the freedom to include elements of 2, 3

and 4 dimensional when necessary. The art customarily incorporates collaged paintings

and drawings with sound and installation. The importance of working in the unconscious

as a source of inspiration is also central in the early development of my work. Often I

allow a piece to develop organically in the same fashion as an automatic surrealist

game or an improvisational jazz recording session. An example of my creative process

can begin as a sound piece composition that I record by incorporating field recordings

and pre-recorded audio samples from a vinyl record. The compositions may then be

utilized into a long drawing session where I translate the recordings into hundreds of

intensely detailed drawings or collages. After being immersed into these two processes

for an emotional length of time a site-specific installation maybe the final result with all

the mediums juxtaposed together. These multidisciplinary projects permit the audience

to interact and gain better insight into my visual thinking process.
