Artist Statement

A pre-determined framework of circles generates the first line, which flows and loops around the matrix. The marks amass to create an image which is both still and moving, ordered and chaotic, both pointing towards perfection and also wholly imperfect.

The slowing down of time and the experience of stillness in the working process is essential to the finished works. There is a sense as the work progresses that perhaps a dazzling or compelling visual effect might be generated, but the drawings are not pre-planned -- the final result is unclear until the last line is drawn. This allows for an embrace of the chaos of uncertainty and the grace of imperfection.
