Artist Statement

I make collaged color pencil drawings of animal forms with minute gestures and impossible growth patterns that create compact energy fields. I join forces with anatomical design found in strains of life common, precarious and imagined. I am inspired by 19th century naturalist illustration, textile design, scientific photography, hermetic practices and forgotten children’s books. The development of each piece is at once mysterious and calculated, an uncanny merging of dense colored lines and layers of drawing with patterns of cut and punched paper.

I live in a small high desert town in remote Southeastern Arizona. Dazzling and bizarre varieties of avifauna and other living things are visible and audible inside my studio and outside my window. I often think about how forms once alive in the blazing rays of the sun as well as those conjured in pencil, paper and glue continue to burst forth and consume us.
