Artist Statement
The series creatures

The medium of drawing initially occupied only a position at the edge of my artistic work as sculptor. My strong interest in three-dimensionality led from sculpture totally into drawing and also photography. In both media I am concerned with space in general – its impression and my influence on it.

My temporary wall drawings refer directly to the chosen room. Thereby my interest lies in a reaction to a specific room situation by drawing, my kind of dialogue with architectural realities.
With slowly led pencil I am sensing the architecture, let it have an effect upon my work and my work upon the space. The pencil’s traces are like beings, which appear at one or at different places, creeping along the wall and disappearing after a period of time.
The traces cause a decomposition of clear, spatial borders. These are being broken and extended, the particular architecture is being redefined by irritation. By looking at it from some distance, the drawing seems to grow into the room, often it is not recognized as a drawing any more. The delicate pencil lines begin to fade and are not perceived as absolutely only two-dimensional.

For the drawings on paper I use technical ink crayons, which, by their sharp outline, cooperate with reflection and effect also from a shorter distance. Here the sheet of paper is the space, within its borders the drawing is placed in a way, as on the sheet is seen just a small part out of a larger whole of interspaces and condensations.
