Artist Statement

 Hunter/Gatherer

Everyday, people cast away priceless artifacts that allude to a past I wish to enrich. Like an archeologist I salvage and study these images and scrap materials and appropriate them as narrative elements in my work. While the surfaces of the pieces have accumulated unfamiliar strata of meaning, the sources for the images must have biographical links because of their important function as personal memory tools.  In the joining of surface and image I hope to construct an improvised memoir, an object more interested in embodying and complicating my history and those of the materials rather than passively pointing towards them.
