Artist Statement

My paintings and drawings portray powerful figures from history and mythology. I explore good and evil - often simultaneously - within visceral recreations of portraits and narratives. Images of masculinity, conflict, and triumph are filtered through my awe and abhorrence for inspiring and yet flawed heroes. Abstraction and realism similarly coexist; gestural marks crystallize into focused areas of representation. I seek an emotional response -- a vibration between imagery and the medium as a gripping, vibrant surface.
