Artist Statement

Using art as a means of storytelling, it has become a refuge for me to make sense of the world and a forgotten childhood. I don’t remember the details of my childhood, but long to tell my story. Inspired by struggles I explore the tension created while discovering the space between childhood and maturity.

Taking the stories I think I know, stories you may also know, and recording them differently, stories that examine loneliness, responsibility, and choice. At first glance the work reads like a fairytale. Using the playful images of children and animals to seduce the viewer into the work. Once the innocent outward appearance is stripped away they are confronted with darker stories of skepticism and failure. Combining these peculiar specific images with phrases, that often become titles, the work is layered with narrative possibility.
