Artist Statement

Hollywood movies mirror our culture on a daily basis in newspapers. We are constantly bombarded with images that we do not control and that promote a certain amount of violence.

I utilize movie advertisements from the New York Times paper, images that speak to my sense of foreboding to soften the pathos of life.

By using colorful cartoon child-like imagery and humor, I keep a record of the time we live in and illustrate “who we are becoming.”

Re-presenting and drawing over these images, anthropomorphically inverting humans who are subjected to lies, with masks of birds, allows me to cushion the harsh reality of our mass consumption as well as witness the polarities of our innocence and cynicism.
