Artists Statement: Recent Drawings 2009

In these drawings I have been exploring direct versus indirect processes of mark- making. The tension between a gesture where the action is evident and a gesture that involves some distance between the hand and the mark, interests me. That led to the counterbalancing of natural/gestural forms with geometry/linearity.
I am also thinking about abstract forms that lead to multiple associations so that there is play, but no particular boundaries between the abstract and the referential.
