Artist Statement
Presented here are drawings from three series that I am currently working on.
Forgeries (1- 9):
Meticulously copied versions of important documents and other objects that should not be copied (passports, credit cards, currency, etc.). I am combining the practices of medieval monks, who would copy manuscripts by hand, with the practical jokes of some conceptual artists. The compositions of these documents tell amusing narratives and investigate the constraints faced by individuals in modern society.
Accidents (10 - 15):
On the left side of the paper, accidental spills of coffee, wine, ketchup, etc. On the right side, copies of these spills done with watercolor and tempera. The juxtaposition of the momentary, random nature of the spills with the time and calculation involved in the copying examines the correlation between the accidental and the premeditated.

Artist Bio / CV
I was born in Vilnius, Lithuania. After graduating from Vilnius Art Academy as a printmaker, I worked on etchings and lithographs, exhibiting in numerous juried and personal shows around the world. Since 1991, I have been residing in New York City, where I produced illustrations for the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, Newsweek, Harper's, etc.  Many of these illustrations have received awards from professional organizations. Aware of the limits on self-expression in the field of commercial illustration, I have begun to allocate more time to my own art projects, which include digital art, installations, paintings and drawings.  I have recently held personal shows in Vienna, Warsaw and Vilnius. I am also actively involved in organizing and collaborating with indie and avant-garde musicians and artists: I helped to create the Independent Drawing Gig, a gathering of international artists and musicians that has been held in various cities around the world.
