Artist Statement

The architectural or aesthetic aspects contain us in daily life. The physical world build up by formal arrangements fascinates me and the content of my work is borrowed from such surroundings.

It begins with images such as - precisely sewn patches of a filled sail, a flowing gossamer fabric or a grounded stack of bricks.  I often use a camera to freeze these forms in space.  By selective focusing the three dimensional spaces are abstracted into two dimensional images. The forms are then simplified into an arrangement of basic elements of line, tones and planes.  These images are only points of departure though. The process of construction of each space is important.  The strategy is to explore the magical, immersive experiences that can be found in the most ordinary of forms.  The purpose is not to look for spatial strangeness but the tension between the understandable and the un – understandable, between representation and abstraction between seeing and knowing.

Consciously or sub-consciously binaries make way in my work. I prefer to carve out the space in black and white. The mathematical and the organic cohabitate as a dialogue is build up using recognizable imagery and a vocabulary of formal elements.

Through out the process, there is often a reference coordinate that is placed in representation. The other coordinates move constantly in a multi dimensional space to discover points that together confess an underlying identity. There is a conscious effort to hold on to the finite space while one manipulates to discover options in infinity. The visual journey between the point of origin and the discovery of other points opens up a dialogue that speaks not about an objective reality but of the possible expression of an inner state.

My work is a search for these fleeting landscapes in this multi dimensional space.
