Artist Statement

Michal Gavish Artist Statement

Michal Gavish is a San Francisco-based multi-media artist. Her paintings, installations and video works examine her personal history. Born in Israel to a family of Holocaust survivors her work is inescapably touching on the political.

Her previous career as a scientist is another major aspect of her work. In her imagery she touches on issues of scientific perception such as measurement, order and disorder and uses them as a special lens for creating her work.

Michal Gavish has a PhD in Physical chemistry and was working as a professional scientist till she decided to concentrate on her art about ten years ago. She received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2008. Her work was shown in many venues in San Francisco, New York, Europe and South America and is represented by the Sandra Lee Gallery in San Francisco.
