David Eckard is an artist, performer and educator based in Portland, OR.
His practice as a visual artist includes fabricated objects, drawings and prints, installations and performances.
Through these varied approaches and diverse presentational strategies, he fabricates residual, fictive artifacts, creates biomorphic, sexualized schematics, assembles arrested moments and orchestrates transient theatrics and temporary monuments for incidental audiences in civic spaces.
Futility, authority, theatricality and persona enter into his creative exploration as notions to investigate, critique, utilize and exploit.
His work has been exhibited internationally and has been written about and reviewed in The New York Times, Flash Art, Art in America, Artnews and Sculpture. He recently had solo exhibition at Atelier Dado in Cetijne Montenegro and at the Centre International D'Art Contemporain in Pont-Aven, France. Previous solo shows include Kim Foster Galley, NY, Fassbender Gallery, Chicago, Consolidated Works, Seattle and Elizabeth Leach Gallery, Portland.
