Artist Statement
Statement

My artwork is based on drawing. From this medium I develop my drawings into space. Of-ten this transfer also includes a change of the medium. From the pencil that I use for the drawings on paper I change to tapes, window markers or adhesive foils.

My artwork explores the relationship between the natural and the artifical and the tensions that their interactions produce. For me drawing is the most precise and at the same time the most abstract medium. It can be used in a scientific way but also invent fantastic creatures and worlds. Together with other artists I would like to liberate drawing from its shadowy existence as a preparing medium for painting and give it an independent way of expression.

An important feature of my work is the contrast between ‚poor‘ materials like cheap paper or isolation tapes and rich and complex forms that never have been seen before. I believe that in this way my deformed figures acquire more strength.

An interesting aspect is the possiblity to reproduce my drawings in electronic medias. Be-cause of their clear lines they are compatible with the pixels of digital medias. Their con-ceptual qualities allow them to be transported very well in a reproduced way.

For years my strongest interest has been to translate two dimensional drawings into three dimensional spaces. I was very happy when I realized that the drawing center offers an i-deal framework for such actions - a framework that should also be established in Europe!
