Drawing for me is a way of making maps to a place no other process gives access to. It's a means of giving shape to complex feelings and ideas, a way of being where experience is transformed from within and manifested in material form.
These drawings take shape out of the necessity to describe a physical requirement. They are an end in themselves and not a description of my work as a painter. They are a spontaneous repsonse to the act of their making and are created as a series. They are expressive of my own physical presence in the world; the pressure of gravity, the tension of air, the emotional buoyancy of connection and disconnect. Like a balloon in the water, they have to do with pressure and suspension, and a sense of being squeezed in time.
