The main body of my artwork is drawing. Drawing for me is a unique method of visual cognition and thinking and therefore not bound to works on paper. The shown staple drawings are only a part of the body of my work. I try to extend and transform the way of drawing into different media and leaving paper to step out into space. Examples for my approach to drawing are — beside classical drawings on paper — numerous staples drawings, wall drawings, chewing gum drawings, glass drawings and drawings done with charcoal powder. I am interested in using the quality characteristics of the different materials to define and transfer certain aspects of the material to my artwork. For example with stapling the ambivalence of destroying and holding together is interesting me. Often my work results in an installation of drawings mixed with sculptures, wall drawings or videos or in a special group of drawings.
The themes of my artwork deal with the human species physically and psychically. With its communication and behavior, the conditions of its life, its settings in society and how I look at it with a sense of questioning and humor. Part of my work is also a commitment to curiosity and absurdity as an anti-pole to a more and more rationalized world. Associative thinking, dreams, phantasms, situations that I went through or situations I observed influences my work. Sometimes this is a spontaneous reaction, sometimes an ongoing process that leads to a resulting artwork after a long period. I would describe the way my artwork emerges as a circling movement around the themes I am interested in, rather than pointing to a fixed truth. Therefore my drawings on paper are shown in groups reflecting this circular movement of thinking and feeling. Another approach is transforming existing images or parts I find everywhere in magazines, newspapers, television, internet or scientific books through changing, adding or reducing their original use, as a vehicle for my own imagery.
