Artist Statement

I graduated with a BFA in painting from The Cooper Union School of Art. I have received Artist Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation, The New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation.

I began making yarn paintings in 1969 while still in High School. In 1990 I purchased a Huichol yarn painting at a Greenwich Village Flea Market.  Fascinated to find a community of artists working in the technique I had been developing for the past twenty years. I traveled to Mexico on a Fulbright Scholarship to talk shop with fellow yarn painters.
