For many years one of the main topics of my work has been nature. Not by means of working with representational images, but rather by creating abstract visual structures which are reminiscent of natural phenomena.
A current body of work, called „Subliminal Space“, is based on details of nature photographs. These are digitally reduced to black and white and altered. The resulting amorphous structures serve as a starting point for my images. Alternating layers of white lines and layers of black lines are built up to create impressions of vigorous motion, speed and spatial depth. The rising moiré patterns add subtle undulating movement to the overall impression.
The use of fields of lines gives these images a transparency and crispness.
One of the aspects which I find most interesting, is the fact, that in many of these drawings the dimensions are not obvious. The depicted spaces could be microscopic (structures and tissues) as well as macroscopic (landscapes or wheather phenomena).
In recent years I have extensively combined digital image processing as groundwork and subsequent manual alteration of these images.
