My work is personal, socially relevant and sincere, yet often very funny.
Religion, sex, and politics often act as substitutes for true passion. I often weave personal stories
and fantasies into the framework of traditional religious art and contemporary images of passion,
such as pop icons, sex manuals and media images.
My search for meaning has always inspired my work, but it is increasingly hard for me to know
what I am supposed to care about.
Through sources such as CNN breaking news, we get constant reminders that people are dying in
wars and natural disasters alongside celebrity gossip. Britney Spears’ latest breakdown gets equal
weight as a tsunami that killed over 170,000 people.
My most recent drawings and paintings juxtapose headlines and to-do lists and diaristic drawings
of non-eventful days. By doing this, I hope to expose my own apathy and possibly find a way
out of it.
