Artist Statement
My work is about the interconnections of representation, meaning and communication. I have explored these by looking at the conversion of logical systems from one form to another. My source material for my drawings is varied and I use Braille symbols, maps, graphs, puzzles such as Sudoku squares, and biological images. The information is changed, distorted and tweaked in these drawings. This yields an abstracted, yet personalized, vocabulary and the resultant images suggest the kind of translation and de-coding that occurs during the act of looking. The drawings interrogate the movement of image to abstraction and abstraction to image and address how information is processed. The use of  synthetic vellum  affords a non-absorbent, translucent surface that both shows off the properties of the drawing media and reflects the physicality of the process.
