Artist Statement

Much of my work is an attempt to reconnect with my childhood experiences. In doing so, I have relied almost entirely on my visual communication to share a story that includes indelible moments of inocense, alongside a wide arrange of more complicated feelings I often wish I could escape.

Through it all I have incorporated an array of iconography and sentiments; cartoon characters, greeting cards, patriotism, the body, sexuality, holidays, travel, and much more. At times, the seductive handling of my subject matter, coupled with my sense of humor and lite-hearted materials, is disquised by a more obsure conversation than includes loss, sorrow, and disappointment - equally important aspects to understanding my work.

My drawings, like my sculpture and installations, are an abundant collection of materials which have been cheerfully arrangemed to pay homage to the spirit and glut of American pop consumer culture.  It's my hope that they awaken the past to an arrousing place of relection.

Each of these three series; "Eyes, Scars, and Wounds", "Off-Springs",  and Rejiggers, overlap in their explorations of desire. Through them I've been able to dig deeper to discover richer and pleasureable places from within.
