Artist Statement
My practice is informed by a central concern with the in-between space. By activating marginal objects, materials, sites and signs, my work animates the interstitial as an alternative language to dominant discourses.

Drawing, far from playing a supporting role in my practice, acts as an independent tool of analysis central to my inquiry into space and structure. In my quest to explore structure as an embodiment of the hierarchies inscribed in space I push drawing into space, for instance, by using tape as line and objects to delineate certain points in space. My work is often site-specific. Created in response to certain spaces, it explores, tests and questions the validity of space and the mechanisms at work in the construction of space.

In my work, drawing is always process-based in nature, a tool for active engagement and transformation; it is inherently reflexive and in constant motion, open-ended, in a state of becoming rather than being. This process of working acts as a reflection of my belief that all structures as well as constructs such as identity, time and space, are not fixed but fluid and in a constant process of negotiation and becoming.
