In my practice as an artist I strive to make each body of work autonomous, my concern is to create sense. Materials and formats vary from one series of work to the next, so do the rules of composition and subject.
The work I am presenting here is being shown (Feb. 2012), at the Carmona e Costa Foundation in Lisbon, the quote below relates to the work shown at this exhibition.
"A strip of colour develops like an echo. It has spun around the nucleus of its own colour and become a pure being that glides across the representation space (the drawing’s sheet). Its history disappears into a void – and yet remains visible in undulating lines and continual strips of colour –, as if it were a (conceptual) by-product of a particle physics that generated elementary units, devoid of mass and importance.
The strips of colour are in the drawing (in a space conveyed in undifferentiated terms, like the liquid surface of a sea) to bring about a beginning, an intimate contiguity between genesis and extinction. They tell us of colourful voids that, via their wavy transit, form a non-objective drawing, out of which a process of deceit and abstraction emerges."
In "the prefection of the undifferentiated", by João Miguel Fernando Jorge.
