Artist Statement

A psychoanalyst might relate these images to my own experience of motherhood. The symmetrical images started when I was pregnant—a symmetrical human form growing inside my own. The tangled masses started in the early days of motherhood, when lack of sleep and the shock and confusion that comes with a new baby had taken hold. The surreal images are more recent, and mark my child’s entry into toddlerhood—a land fraught with contradictions and the layering of my child’s visions with my own.
