Artist Statement

I work to create a balance of calm and intrigue.

My drawings are an adventure in unchartered territory, searching to see what develops. I work with color, shape and line in its pure and simple essence, developing imagery that is unrelated to familiar representation. This series of drawings was done following a year of working on paintings for a site-specific installation. I went back to the studio with the intention of totally loosening up, to see what would develop. Like a conversation, where one word can transport you to an entirely new thought, my marks and shapes introduced very peculiar “Dinner Guests”. The air is dense with apprehension, confusion, defensiveness, curiosity, excitement, isolation…
