Artist Statement
Navigating the waters of life means balancing all the signs that nature provides externally with your own internal state of grace. I have always needed to make things with my hands, to fully use my body in all its integrated parts. While the mind is a wondrous thing, it is just the tip of the iceberg in comparison to all that lurks in the depths of the ocean. Sometimes dredging up the material available is an act of faith, that what you find there may be mucky and full of darkness, but what can emerge is a beautiful transformation. That is what art is, taking the materials literally at hand, and transforming them into your own expression. And if you are fearless in your pursuit, what emerges usually carries a universal truth that resides inside every living spirit. Art is making links between ideas and objects, concepts and content in a way that sends home the message of integration. The mind revels in separation, putting ideas in categories, trying to make sense of the world, while the spirit employs the senses and the body to illuminate all things as one.
