Artist Statement

Bare winter trees are the central images in many of these paintings.

However they are not traditional landscape paintings, but rather

representations of cycles of life and mood. I began using winter trees to

express my feelings of loss after my father and brother died within two

weeks of each other in 2000. I experimented with a number of artistic

responses to these losses, but the tree motif spoke to me most directly. In

western Pennsylvania, where I grew up, the forest and hunting are such a

part of life. A life they lived and I left.
